Shoebox Appeal 2015

This year's shoebox appeal for Samaritans Purse resulted in a record 490 shoeboxes being loaded onto a minibus this morning.  77 of these were from churches and members of the wider Davenant community.  We would like to say a huge thank-you  and well done to everyone involved.

Veronica M. Podbury visits Davenant school

The school library was delighted this week to welcome Veronica M.Podbury, author of the books 'Secrets' and 'Watching'.

Veronica held workshops in the library for Year 7, 8 and 9 students, during which she gave readings from her books and discussed and answered questions on many aspects of reading and creative writing. She also held a popular lunchtime book signing.

Veronica said, "Although all the people in my books are fictional, they reflect real life, which is always full of mystery, hidden just beneath the surface of ordinary things." In her books, Veronica tackles gritty themes such as modern-day slavery and human trafficking, deception and intrigue, as well as giving an insight into the lives of Romany Gypsies.
