The Davenant School Libraries had a busy start to 2016, supporting students as they took their mock examinations in January. Study guides and revision techniques were very popular.
The library has 150 new resources so far this year for students of all ages to enjoy. They also have a recommendation from Mr Seward - 'Wolf by Wolf' - an intriguing and unique tale of a young Holocaust survivor; also now available is the winner of the Costa Book Award 2015, 'The Lie Tree' by Frances Hardinge.
A powerful display to mark Holocaust Memorial Day is currently running in both libraries, complementing the studies that many of our students undertake in their History curriculum.
Accelerated Reader success!
Daveant Year 7 students are currently completing their second Accelerated Reader Star Tests with some impressive results. Five students have read over 500,000 words, five more have read over 700,000 and a further two have read over 1,000,000 words. One of our students has read an amazing 1,770,349 words since we started the programme in September!
Many congratulations to all of our students for working towards their reading targets by regularly reading their Accelerated Reader book and undertaking quizzes. The target that all students should be working towards is 45 minutes of reading every day.
Harry Potter event and other news
The library staff are busy preparing for next half term when they will be celebrating World Book Day on the 3rd March, which will culminate with a Harry Potter Event after school. They will also be reflecting on Lent as we move towards the Easter Holiday.
