There are six Houses at Davenant and every student and member of staff is a member of one of these. The House system was created in 2005 with the aim of fostering friendly competition, developing the students' opportunities to demonstrate leadership and to act as a focus for charitable work. The House names were chosen to both reflect communities our students live in and to make up the name of the school.

D - Debden

A - Abbey ( as in Waltham Abbey)

V - Valley (as in Lea Valley)

E - Epping

N - Nazeing

T - Theydon (as in Theydon Bois)

In Years 7 to 11 the students' tutor group determines which House they are in ie 8A = Abbey House. Students moving on into the Sixth Form retain their House affliation even though they will now be in 'mixed' tutor groups. (New students joining the Sixth Form are allocated to Houses.) Each House has a Head of House, who is  a member of staff and a team of Sixth Form House Prefects. There are also a number of House Volunteers in Years 10 & 11.
The House system has been very successful in its first couple of years and continues to develop as time goes on.
