The Economics Department is part of the BICT faculty. At Davenant, Economics is taught at A Level only and can be studied either in option line A or C. 

Mission:

In Economics our aim is that students will develop a passionate interest in the economic affairs of a globalised world that will last a lifetime.  Students will have an appreciation of the challenges caused by the basic economic problem, scarcity, both at a micro and a macro level. Students will develop an ability to construct economic arguments based upon sound technical understanding.

Economics A Level – Edexcel syllabus A

This is a linear A Level

Over the two years, the students will prepare for the A Level examination, which they will sit at the end of Year 13.  They will study four themes:

1 Introduction to Markets and Market Failure (micro)

2 The UK Economy- Performance & Policies (macro)

3 Business Behaviour and the Labour Market (micro)

4 A Global Perspective (macro)

They will sit three two-hour examinations covering the four themes from the whole of the two years.

Assessment:

Internal assessment, including a variety of testing techniques will take place throughout the course. 

The A Level is assessed in three units

Paper 1 Markets and Business Behaviour

35% of A Level

2 hours

This will assess microeconomics and cover themes 1 and 3.

Multiple choice, short answer questions, data response and an essay.

Paper 2 The National & Global Economy

35% of A Level

2 hours

This will assess macroeconomics and cover themes 2 and 4.

Multiple choice, short answer questions, data response and an essay.

 

 Paper 3 Microeconomics and Macroeconomics

30% of A Level

2 hours

This will assess all four themes.

The paper comprises two sections, each with a data response question and choice of two essays.
