Product Design

Key Stage 3

Students have the opportunity to learn how to work in the workshop and safely use the machines and tools. They gain an understanding of materials and their applications.

Products Design gives students a chance to express themselves through design and often helps with confidence issues. We focus largely on SMSC through the type of inclusive design work.

Curriculum content

Year 7:

Project One; Wooden Box constructed using a wood joint.

Project Two; Acrylic Key tags.

Year 8:

Project One; Pop-up book

Project Two; Polymorph Pens

Year 9;

Group work project, designing inclusive/educational toys children

*Peer, Self and teacher assessment throughout

Key Stage 4

Working with AQA exam board, Product Design (3D Design) allows students to access their interests and develop inclusive and sustainable products for the modern world.

Students work in both folders and also e-portfolios and product a final 3D working model or concept design.

This course accesses the interest of furniture design, jewellery, graphics, engineers and architect so mention a few.

Students work is marked by teachers then final marks are given following a moderation of all coursework.

Key Stage 5

Working with AQA exam board, Product Design (3D Design) A Level focuses on marketable and commercially liable products. Students are required to have an actual client and design for an actual need.

Environment, social, morals and inclusive issues are to be covered.

Students learn about iconic design and follow ideas offered from design movements

Students work on e-portfolios and produce a final 3D working model or concept design of a very high standard.

This course accesses the interest of furniture design, jewellery, graphics, engineers and architect so mention a few.
