Physical Education
The P.E. Department compliments the School’s Vision and Ethos, and seeks to educate pupils morally, socially, physically and academically to ensure that each person knows that his or her contribution is valued.
AIM
The main aims of the Department are as one with those of the School and can be summarised as follows:
- To achieve maximum high quality participation from all students.
- To ensure that all students are motivated and take pride in their work.
- The improvement of physical wellbeing and independent learning.
- The development of skills, including the ability to analyse performance.
- To promote a healthy lifestyle.
- To develop good social relationships.
- To prepare a child for the future and to promote careers and work related opportunities.
- To promote expressive, creative and aesthetic development.
- To promote and support activities of the wider community.
KEY STAGE 3
All students have two hours of Physical Education per week. Activities vary from term to term. All students are graded at the end of each unit of work which contributes to their end of Key Stage Assessment.

KEY STAGE 4
All students participate in Physical Education lessons in Year 10 and 11 as part of their core entitlement. Students may opt to study GCSE PE or Cambridge National in Sports Studies.
CORE PE: The Year 10 and Year 11 PE programme includes a variety of activities. All CORE PE students are given an opportunity in KS4 to achieve awards in badminton and leadership. Each student is allocated four lessons over a two week cycle.
GCSE PE: In Year 9 students opt to take GCSE PE to begin in Year 10. Students are allocated nine lessons over a two week cycle. The GCSE course is a mixture of practical and theory components. Students studying the subject at GCSE follow the OCR specification. During the course, the following topics are covered:

CAMBRIDGE NATIONAL IN SPORTS STUDIES:
In Year 9 students can opt to take a Level 1/2 Technical Award in Sport Studies to begin in Year 10. Students are allocated five lessons over a two-week cycle. The Sports Studies course is a mixture of practical and theoretical components. Students studying the subject follow the OCR specification. During the course, the following topics are covered:
